My name is Joeri van der Waal (PD0W). I am 28 years old and live in the small town of Lopik, located in the heart of the Netherlands.
My interest in radio communications started with a fascination for technology, antennas, and making contacts around the world. After spending time learning about amateur radio, I successfully passed my Novice Amateur Radio Exam on March 6, 2019, and received my callsign PD0W.
Since then, amateur radio has become one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy experimenting with different antennas, portable operations, and digital modes such as FT8. I am always interested in improving my station and learning new aspects of the hobby.
In addition to digital modes, I am also active on SSB and have a strong interest in radio contests. I regularly participate in contest events from the PI4UTR club station, where I enjoy operating alongside fellow radio amateurs. I also participate in contests together with Call (PA0AA). The challenge of making as many contacts as possible, improving operating skills, and working stations from all over the world is something I greatly enjoy.
Besides amateur radio, I work in the IT industry and have a strong interest in technology, networking, cloud solutions, and security. The combination of technical knowledge and radio communication makes amateur radio a perfect hobby for me.
You will often find me active on the HF bands, either from my home station or operating portable during holidays and outdoor activities. I especially enjoy taking radio equipment with me while traveling and exploring new locations. Whether it is FT8, SSB, contesting, or portable operation, I am always looking forward to the next contact.
